Council joins battle against county
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Surprise City Council Thursday approved joining forces with Peoria and Glendale in taking legal action against Maricopa County to protect land from encroachment around Luke Air Force base and military installations.
The agenda item approved retaining outside counsel to advise and represent the cities in further legal actions against the county.
The item passed unanimously, with the exception of Mayor Lyn Truitt, who did not attend the meeting.
On Tuesday, Glendale's council approved allocating an initial $30,000 toward legal expenses. No dollar amount was specified from Surprise, though it was noted that initial funds from Surprise are available in the current operating budget.
