WHAT ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW: The family-owned and operated restaurant closed May 15 for renovations. It reopened June 10 with an additional 1,500 square feet of space, including a stage, dance floor and large projection screen to broadcast soccer games and live news broadcasts from Europe. "After three years, we needed to expand to keep from losing customers," said manager Edward Puchala. "We also needed room for more entertainment." The restaurant serves wine and beer. The deli meats are imported from Chicago and include the popular Polish ham, Krakus.

UNIQUE TIDBITS: The restaurant has live polka music every weekend, provided by the John Smoltz Band (call the restaurant for the music schedule). The restaurant is named for Poland's national emblem, the white eagle. All of the recipes have been handed down generation to generation, Puchala said, beginning with his grandmother, who owned a restaurant in Poland and taught the recipes to Puchala's mother.

FUTURE PLANS: Puchala said they plan to add an outdoor patio, apply for a full liquor license and "hopefully, open a location in the East Valley."

SLOGAN: "Let's polka, everybody!"
